3 offensive Texas football players bound to detonate the stat sheet 2022
Isaiah Neyor, WR
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if the most productive new addition for the Longhorns during the 2022 season winds up being the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. As the first addition by way of the NCAA Transfer Portal at the wide receiver position this offseason, Neyor is also likely going to be the most impactful.
Neyor is bound to start for the Longhorns receiving corps alongside the rising star sophomore Xavier Worthy and the speedy and elusive redshirt junior Jordan Whittington.
This will leave Neyor with a ton of opportunities to take the top off opposing defenses with deep routes down the sidelines and to get 50/50 balls when either freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers or junior Hudson Card can’t find any of their other reads.
Neyor is also the lengthy deep threat that the Longhorns didn’t have on a consistent basis last season. Redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore was disappointing last season. And there weren’t really any other true possession receivers Texas could turn to on the outside with Troy Omeire missing the entire season with another knee injury.
Last season at Wyoming, Neyor registered nearly 900 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns. And roughly half of those receiving yards and touchdowns came on deep passes. That type of ability to take the top off opposing defenses, combined with the insane arm talent that Ewers (who I would presume will be the starter this fall) brings to the table, will be a lethal combination this fall.
We saw the type of potential that this connection between Ewers and Neyor could be during the spring game last month. That 70+ yard connection for the most explosive touchdown of the spring game had Texas fans talking in the last few weeks.
It is realistic to expect Neyor to cross the 1,000-receiving yard mark while going north of a dozen touchdowns for the second straight season.
