It’s not only the Texas football program and the Oklahoma Sooners that duke it out in high-stakes matchups on the gridiron. These two schools have faced each other in some high-stakes outings in multiple sports of late.

The Sooners and Longhorns faced each other in some de facto Red River Rivalry games in the final game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship last week and in the second game for Texas in the Women’s College World Series this weekend.

Unfortunately for the Longhorns, though, they fell short in all three contests between the last meetings between Texas and Oklahoma in baseball, softball, and football. That included Texas’ 7-2 loss to Oklahoma in this de facto Red River game in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, OK, on June 4.

But the Oklahoma football Twitter page didn’t skip a beat in grabbing hold of a chance to try and troll the Longhorns. The Sooners’ official football team Twitter page posted after the softball team’s win on June 4 that they “have a Golden Hat you can borrow to celebrate”.

They also posted a picture of the former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops in attendance at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC in this Red River game in the WCWS. Stoops was shown in this picture with the caption “always in the mood to #BeatTexas”.

Stoops was Oklahoma’s head coach from 1999-2016. And he even coached the Sooners through their Alamo Bowl win over the Oregon Ducks last season as the interim head coach after the departure of Lincoln Riley to join the USC Trojans last fall.

Moreover, the loss to the Sooners for head softball coach Mike White and the Longhorns means they’re facing a do-or-die elimination game on June 5 against the unseeded Arizona Wildcats. If Texas beats Arizona to round out the weekend, they would get a meeting against another Big 12 foe in the seven-seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls in OKC on June 6.

If Texas and Oklahoma don’t face each other in softball or baseball again this postseason, then the next time that these two schools would face each other in one of the three aforementioned sports in this piece will be in football this fall. Texas will face Oklahoma in the annual Red River Rivalry game this coming season in football on Oct. 8.
