Arch Manning, QB

The recruit that everyone wants to hear about that is visiting Austin officially later this month is the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Texas is set to host Manning for a likely multi-day official visit from June 17-19. And if Arch is planning a late summer or early fall decision timeline, then it could be the final time that he visits Austin before announcing his commitment.

Either way you dissect Arch’s decision timeline right now, there is a way to shed a positive light on Texas’ chances in this recruitment. If Arch wants until late in the fall to announce his decision, that could mean he’s waiting to see how good Texas is able to do on the field this coming season.

Yet, if he decides to announce his commitment before the college football season begins, that could benefit the Longhorns in the sense that they could get the final word with Arch before his decision comes to fruition.

Moreover, what Longhorns fans want to know about cornering the status of Arch right now is the result of his highly-anticipated official visit to Athens last weekend with head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. From what we’ve heard thus far, the visit for Arch to Athens went well. But there wasn’t likely much that changed compared to what was expected coming out of this OV with Georgia.

There are still two particular factors that could determine who Arch picks between Texas and Georgia. First is how much Arch and his camp are convinced that Sark has the Longhorns headed in the right direction. If Arch has reason to believe that Texas is trending up under Sark and that he can be developed with this program, then it’s hard to see the Dawgs beating out the Longhorns in the end.

But the second factor in play here is related to the first in the fact that Sark and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee could have a better and more believable pitch to Arch in terms of quarterback development. Sark has a long track record of developing NFL-caliber quarterbacks. That’s not really something that offensive coordinator Todd Monkey and the Georgia staff can boast.
