The recruiting trail is about to heat up this summer for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program with the first round of official visitors this month set to arrive on campus soon. Texas has a few major weekends hosting key visitors among targets of their 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes.

But there will continue to be some changes to the visitor list for the Longhorns that will extend into the fall. A good example of that among fast-rising targets of the Longhorns 2023 class is the touted four-star Milton (GA) safety Bryce Thornton.

It looks like Thornton is starting to see some shifts in his group of top schools thanks to some big pushes heading into the summer on the trail from the likes of the Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines. For that reason, Thornton is pushing his official visit schedule to the fall. And that likely means a decision timeline that will form late in this recruiting cycle for the Georgia native Thornton.

According to a report from On3, Thornton is “undergoing changes” among his top schools. And it sounds like Michigan and Texas are big reasons for those changes.

Thornton announced on his Twitter timeline on June 7 that he’s got four official visits scheduled for the fall at the moment. Those four visits are set to come with the Miami Hurricanes (Sep. 23), Alabama Crimson Tide (Oct. 9), Florida Gators (Oct. 21), and LSU Tigers (Nov. 4).

That does leave a few key weekends open for either the Longhorns or Wolverines to get Thornton on the books for a visit this fall. The school that is able to get Thornton on campus for an official this fall is likely the one that will round out his updated top five.

Thornton has cited the relationships and consistent communication he has with the Texas coaching staff as the main reasons why he is seriously considering them among his top schools.

That just goes to show the heightened priority that the Longhorns staff is placing on the recruitment of Thornton heading into the busy summer months on the trail.
