Texas football WR target Johntay Cook earns coveted fifth-star
The upcoming official visit season for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will really get up and running in the next week, mainly with a spotlight on targets of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class. Texas will be hosting multiple dozen visitors, mainly among targets of the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes, in the next few weeks.
And one of the top targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that is expected to be on campus later this month is the newly minted five-star rated DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook.
There was big news that came down from one of the major recruiting ranking services concerning the standing of Cook for this cycle this week. Cook is now rated as a five-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite ranking. That slots him as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country for the 2023 cycle and the No. 6 prospect out of Texas.

He’s got a similar ranking in the On3 Consensus for this cycle, as he is slotted as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 prospect out of Texas.
Cook earning this highly coveted fifth-star in his 247Sports Composite recruiting ranking now makes him the lone five-star wideout out of Texas. He is also now one of four uncommitted five-star wide receivers that hold a Texas offer. The other three are Gulliver Prep’s Jalen Brown, IMG Academy’s Carnell Tate, and American Heritage’s Brandon Inniss.
All three of the other uncommitted five-star wide receivers that hold a Texas offer are Florida natives.
Moreover, Cook earning that elusive fifth star in his recruiting ranking makes him that much more valuable to the Longhorns. This also further proves his standing as the top target on the board at the wide receiver position for the Longhorns 2023 class.

Cook is now currently scheduled for an official visit to Texas this summer. But there is an assumption that he will visit Texas unofficially on the same weekend that the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning has his official visit (starting on June 17).
