This coming weekend will be the biggest for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff of the entire offseason in terms of the importance of the visitor list among targets of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class that will be on campus. Texas is set to host likely at least a dozen key targets of the 2023 class this weekend, which will mostly encompass official visitors.

Sark and the Longhorns staff have one particularly important target, though, that will be on campus for an official visit this weekend. The elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback and the top-rated 2023 recruit in the nation Arch Manning is set to have his official visit in Austin starting on June 17.

This visit for Arch to Texas is expected to last multiple days through June 19.

Moreover, there will be other important targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that will be on campus for visits this weekend. But the focus here will obviously be on Arch.

One interesting aspect of this visit from Arch will be his attention to defensive prospects that will also be on campus with him. Arch seems to be taking particular interest in not only what his supporting cast will be like on the offensive side of the ball with whatever recruiting class he chooses to be a part of, but also what the defensive skill looks like.

Who can help Texas football land Arch Manning among the defensive visitors this weekend?

With that in mind, here’s a look at three defensive prospects also visiting Texas this weekend that could help the Longhorns in the race to land a commitment from Arch.

Raul Aguirre, LB

Among the more surprising visitors for the Longhorns this weekend is the touted four-star Whitewater (GA) linebacker Raul Aguirre. Texas added Aguirre to the official visitor list for the weekend just a couple of days ago. Aguirre is coming off official visits with the Alabama Crimson Tide (June 10) and Florida Gators (June 3).

This will be tough to beat for the Longhorns as Florida and Alabama look to firmly sit among the top group of schools in the race to land a commitment from Aguirre. And that’s not to mention the fact that Aguirre is still slated for an official visit on June 24 with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

But it’s big for co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns to get an official visit with Aguirre in and of itself.

Aguirre was in Tuscaloosa with Manning last weekend as they both visited Alabama. Many of the same schools that have gone after Manning in the last year or so are also after Aguirre. There is some form of a relationship here between Aguirre and Arch.

And if the Longhorns can manage to get a commitment out of a blue-chip linebacker that has a relationship with Arch and can also help at a big-time position of need in the 2023 class, that would be about as much as you could ask out of recruiting Aguirre.
