Texas football gets surprise visit from 5-Star 2024 DT T.A. Cunningham
The 2024 recruiting big board is starting to come together for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff as the summer visit season approaches for the Texas football program. Texas essentially has their priorities sorted out for the most part for the 2023 recruiting class heading into the thick of the summer visit season.
But Sark and the Longhorns staff are largely still scouting out who the top targets are for the 2024 class.
One early name we can firmly say is worth watching, though, is the elite five-star Johns Creek (GA) defensive lineman T.A. Cunningham. This Georgia native defensive lineman is one of the top-rated recruits in the entire country for the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Some of the top programs, namely in SEC country, are fully in pursuit of Cunningham at this point of the offseason. And Texas is now one of the schools jumping into the mix in the race to land a commitment from Cunningham early on.
Texas football gets a surprise unofficial visit this week from 5-Star 2024 DL T.A. Cunningham
Cunningham posted on his Twitter timeline on the morning of June 16 that he is on campus at the University of Texas for a visit. This will be the first time that Cunningham has visited Texas.
Yet, the communication did start a while back between the Longhorns and Cunningham. Texas offered Cunningham back in November 2021, so there is a relationship already built here to some degree.
This visit will be an important step as defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns try to get some real traction on the recruiting trail with Cunningham this offseason.
There are a good number of schools that Cunningham has visited already this month to say the least. He’s already visited the Michigan State Spartans, Michigan Wolverines, UCLA Bruins, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and USC Trojans, so far this month along with Texas.
And there will likely be more visits to come later this summer for the highly touted Cunningham.
Moreover, Texas is really going to have to fight this summer to get involved among the top schools in the Cunningham sweepstakes. There are more than 50 offers that Cunningham already hauled in still early on in his recruitment. And some of the top schools for him this offseason look to be the Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, Arkansas Razorbacks, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
He’s already taken multiple visits in the last year or so to Tennessee, Arkansas, and South Carolina.
Cunningham is one of the top-rated 2024 recruits that Texas has offered thus far. In the 247Sports Composite Ranking, Cunningham slots as the nation’s No. 5 2024 high school prospect, and the top overall defensive lineman and prospect out of Georgia.
