Billy Walton, EDGE

Among the defensive recruits that we were watching coming out of the official visit weekend for the Longhorns that could soon be a part of the 2023 class is the Oklahoma State Cowboys commit and three-star South Oak Cliff edge rusher Billy Walton. Texas really hit the nail on the head during Walton’s official visit to Austin over the weekend.

From what we’ve heard in the 24 hours or so since Walton’s visit concluded with the Longhorns, it sounds like this staff couldn’t have done much better in their pitch to him and his camp. Walton seems to think very highly of the Longhorns now. In fact, he might be thinking so highly of the Longhorns that he immediately re-considered his options and his status with Oklahoma State.

Walton is another target of the Longhorns 2023 class that had a bevy of expert forecasts placed projecting him to land with Texas. He is one of the many targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that was trending to Texas in the last day or so.

I’m not going to say that this is a done deal yet with Walton. But Texas definitely got him thinking enough to consider him a real threat to flip from Oklahoma State to the Longhorns 2023 class even by the end of this week.

It will also be worth watching what happens with the Longhorns in pursuit of five-star cornerback Malik Muhammad and five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook if Texas pulls out a commitment from Walton. He is the cousin and teammate of Muhammad and is very close with Cook.
