We continue the lists of the best players at each position in the history of the Texas football program this week with the wide receivers. We’ve now covered the 10 best quarterbacks and running backs in Texas program history in the last few weeks.

While the Longhorns have a storied history of quarterbacks and running backs, wide receiver has been a position that is a bit more inconsistent. Texas certainly has some accomplished wideouts that are worth their fair share of recognition throughout the program’s history.

Given the fact that the ground game played such a big role in some of the success that some of the more prominent teams in Longhorns football history found on the field, wide receiver obviously wasn’t going to stuff the stat sheet or get in the spotlight as much. But in the last few decades, the Longhorns did develop some of the best wideouts seen in the Big 12 and/or Southwest Conference.

Ranking out the 10 best wide receivers in Texas football history

Seeing all of the recent developments for the Longhorns on the offensive side of the ball, specifically in the passing game, makes ranking out the top wide receivers all-time for Texas is pretty interesting. There are a number of different ways to look at the best wide receivers in program history.

But we’re obviously going to take the counting stats into account as a major factor when ranking out the best wideouts in program history. Big-time moments and career accolades with Texas will also play a role here. We also can’t forget about any of the contextual items, ranging from injury hurdles to collegiate career longevity.

It’s important to also remember that the counting stats for wideouts clearly won’t be as stuffed during the 1960s or 1970s as they would since the turn of the century.

Here’s a look at a ranking of the 10 best wide receivers in the history of the Longhorns football program, along with some honorable mentions that deserve their recognition.
