Quinn Ewers, QB

The most hyped-up freshmen arriving for the Longhorns this offseason is the former first-year Ohio State Buckeyes transfer quarterback and elite five-star Southlake Carroll recruit Quinn Ewers. This former Texas commit was the biggest addition for Sark and the Longhorns this offseason by way of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Ewers is also the only non-true freshman on this list that could start for the Longhorns in Week 1 against ULM.

All eyes among Longhorns fans will be on the looming quarterback competition in fall camp between Ewers and rising junior Hudson Card. Most Texas fans assume at this point of the offseason that Ewers could even be a near shoo-in to win the starting job for Week 1 over Card. But this quarterback competition might end up drawing out longer than some think.

Sark has the chance to get both Ewers and Card a significant number of live-game reps in Week 1 against ULM before Texas has the really challenging non-conference matchup arrive on Sep. 10 against the Alabama Crimson Tide. For that reason, the quarterback that has Sark’s confidence heading into Week 2 will actually be much more important in my opinion than heading into the regular season opener.

From the sound of it, Ewers is still showing off his immense arm talent during the on-field portion of summer workouts. It also sounds like Ewers has found good chemistry with a trio of wideouts in freshman Brenen Thompson, redshirt sophomore Isaiah Neyor, and star sophomore Xavier Worthy.

If Ewers can continue to prove his heightened confidence and maturity, along with a natural connection with some of his top wide receiver targets, he should have a clear edge to win the starting job over Card in fall camp.
