Texas football’s DeMarvion Overshown has draft stock on the rise
Texas football fans would love to see more progress from this program in terms of the caliber of prospects coming out in the NFL Draft year over year. That is even more pressing since Texas went without a single pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
We are also going on more than seven years now since the last first-round NFL Draft pick among former Longhorns. The last time Texas had a first-round pick in the NFL Draft was back in 2015 when defensive tackle Malcom Brown was selected 32nd overall by the New England Patriots.
But there are some indications that the streak of consecutive years without a first-round pick, and even without any NFL Draft pick in general, will come to an end for the Longhorns in 2023. Many anticipate star junior running back Bijan Robinson as a first-round pick in the 2023 draft.
And another Longhorn worth watching in the 2023 draft class that has his stock on the rise at the moment is the former converted safety and senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. While Overshown was figured to be a day two or day three pick in the 2023 draft class at the outset of this offseason, his stock is rising considerably putting him in the conversation of an early-round pick heading into the fall.
Texas football LB DeMarvion Overshown profiling as a day two pick in the 2023 NFL Draft?
This was evidenced by a recent two-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft from USA Today Draft Wire. The latest two-round 2023 mock draft from the USA Today Draft Wire slotted Overshown as the No. 48 overall pick in the second round to the Miami Dolphins.
Slotting Overshown as an early-to-mid second-round pick shows that USA Today is higher on him than most were earlier in the offseason. And there are other sources showing that the draft outlook for Overshown this summer appears to be trending up.
In the latest update to SI FanNation’s NFL Draft position rankings for the 2023 class, Overshown cracked the top five outside linebackers. That is a higher ranking than at the outset of the offseason for Overshown at the outside linebacker position.
Moreover, if Overshown can show ample strides as a do-it-all athletic linebacker in this Texas defensive front this fall, we’re likely to see his draft stock really takeoff. He’s got all the physical traits required to fit the profile of a day one or day two pick in the NFL Draft.
Overshown just needs to show the consistent production on the field before NFL scouts are really going to take him seriously as a top two or three-round pick in the draft.
The 2022 season will be the fifth for Overshown playing at Texas. He’s now registered more than 150 career combined tackles in college, 21 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, 14 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
