There were quite a few key players for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program that came away from this last-second one-point loss to head coach Nick Saban and the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide with various injury issues. Of those key injured Texas players in this loss to Alabama on Sep. 10, two of the most notable were quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card.

The redshirt freshman Ewers was injured on a driving hit from sophomore Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner around the end of the first quarter. Ewers would leave the game after suffering what turned out to be a clavicle sprain that will keep him out for four-to-six weeks.

Meanwhile, the junior signal-caller Card suffered an apparent ankle injury on a big hit that he took on a sack not too long after taking over for Ewers in this game. Card was clearly limping for most of this game, and it looks like he’s dealing with a right ankle sprain coming out of the Alabama game.

Texas football QB Hudson Card could reportedly be “in question” vs. UTSA

According to a report from Taylor Estes of Horns247 on the afternoon of Sep. 11, the ankle injury that Card suffered in this game “could put his availability in question” when Texas takes on the UTSA Roadrunners at home on Sep. 17.

The fact that the top two quarterbacks for Sark and the Longhorns are both dealing with notable injuries now begs the question of what this staff will do for next weekend’s matchup against UTSA. If Card is not able to start for Texas at quarterback on Sep. 17, that will mean either redshirt freshman Charles Wright or true freshman Maalik Murphy has to be ready to face UTSA.

We will continue to monitor this injury situation for Card as he would be the de facto starting quarterback for the next few weeks as Ewers recovers from the clavicle sprain.
