There will be no love lost this Saturday afternoon as  Texas football travels to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This game provides a huge opportunity as a momentum booster for both programs.

Saturday will mark new Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire’s first Big 12 game as the leader of the Red Raiders. The city of Lubbock and the Red Raider faithful have seemingly gravitated towards their first-year head coach. In turn, they have sold out Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday for the first time since 2018.

Texas football has won 16 of the last 19 matchups against Texas Tech, including six straight in Lubbock.

Steve Sarkisian’s squad will look to parlay the success of their three-game nonconference schedule into Big 12 play. This will be Sarkisian’s first time traveling to Lubbock as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, and the first road game of the season for his team.

Looking at this matchup from a macro level, getting off to a strong start in Big 12 play is important for both teams.

Coach McGuire is looking to lead the Red Raiders to back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time since 2012/2013. Coach Sarkisian believes his team has the chops to bring home the program’s first Big 12 title since 2009. Something must give on Saturday.

To the surprise of Red Raider nation, the Texas Tech defense has looked stout through three games whereas the offense has lagged behind. This has not been the norm in Lubbock, though, a fully complimentary football team is not far away for Joey McGuire and his staff.

This Texas Tech offense has a plethora of weapons that could potentially expose the Longhorn defense. Let’s take a look at the three most explosive Red Raiders and how they could potentially give Texas trouble on Saturday.
