4-Star EDGE Colton Vasek ‘expected’ to visit Texas football today
On Oct. 15, Texas football will battle it out with head coach Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones at home at the friendly confines of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will be looking to get his third straight win in Big 12 play against a gritty Iowa State team this weekend.
A win over Iowa State this weekend could continue to have positive reverberations on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff. Texas is starting to get some momentum and buzz going on the recruiting trail again. And this weekend could be a big part of any continued momentum for Texas on the trail.
One particular recruit that Texas is looking to make an impression on this weekend is the highly touted four-star Oklahoma Sooners commit and Austin Westlake edge rusher Colton Vasek. The local edge rusher recruit has already seen multiple Texas games in person this fall. He was in attendance for the demolition of Oklahoma that happened in the Red River Rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas last weekend, by the final score of 49-0.
Texas football could host 4-Star EDGE and OU commit Colton Vasek for a visit this weekend
And it looks like Vasek could, in fact, be in attendance yet again at DKR for a Texas game this weekend.
According to a report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas on Oct. 15 (paid content), Vasek is “expected” to be on campus for the Texas-Iowa State game in Austin this weekend. Vasek wasn’t originally set to be attending this Texas-Iowa State game on Oct. 15, but that could be changing from this IT report ahead of the kickoff of this key Big 12 contest in Austin.
If Texas does get Vasek visiting for the Iowa State game on Oct. 15, that would be big as this staff continues to try and chip away to get him to flip his commitment from Oklahoma before signing day in a couple of months.
Texas currently holds commitments from 21 recruits in the 2023 class as of the morning of Oct. 15. There are two edge rushers committed in the Longhorns 2023 class, including the former three-star Oklahoma State Cowboys pledge and South Oak Cliff product Billy Walton and four-star Teague product Derion Gullette.
