Texas football sets new OV date with 5-Star TE Duce Robinson
Great news arrived for head coach Steve Sarkisian, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks, and the Texas football program on the recruiting trail this weekend. Following the narrow 24-21 win over the Iowa State Cyclones at home on Oct. 15, it looks like Texas has now locked in an official visit date (or at least a re-scheduled one) with one of the top-rated remaining uncommitted targets in the 2023 recruiting class.
The elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson was essentially at the top of the wish list for the Longhorns among the offensive recruits currently not committed to the 2023 class this fall. And he was supposed to take an official visit to Austin last month. But weather issues got in the way and Robinson was forced to delay/re-schedule his official visit date to Austin.
There wasn’t much buzz coming out of Robinson’s camp in the way of communication or continued progress for the Longhorns in this recruitment. But that changed late this weekend.
According to a report from Blair Angulo of 247Sports on Oct. 16 (paid content), Texas is set to get an official visit from Robinson for the game at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Nov. 12 against new head coach Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs.

Robinson stated in this report that he is “really excited to see what the environment there is like” and that he’s “excited to build relationships with all the guys”. It definitely sounds like Robinson is going to come into this official visit next month with an open mind and a good attitude.
So far, Robinson has already taken three official visits, and has two more on the docket after reportedly getting this one on the books with the Longhorns for Nov. 12. He’s already taken official visits to see the USC Trojans (June 17), Georgia Bulldogs (Sep. 23), and Alabama Crimson Tide (Oct. 7). And he’s on the docket to take an official visit to Eugene this fall to see the Oregon Ducks.
Robinson also already took an unofficial visit to Austin. But a return visit would give Sark, Banks, and the Longhorns a real shot to make a big move in this recruitment before the first signing day in a couple of months.
Moreover, Texas is clearly still actively recruiting for the tight end position in the 2023 class. Despite already holding two tight end commitments in the 2023 class, Texas is still after both Robinson and potentially the three-star Vanderbilt Commodores commit and the Fort Worth North Crowley product Ka’Morreun Pimpton.
Robinson looks to be turning into one of the most important remaining 2023 skill position recruits ahead of signing day. Texas is looking to add him to a mix of tight ends in the 2023 class that also includes three-star Mater Dei product Spencer Shannon and three-star Isidore Newman product Will Randle.
