Ex-Texas football 5-Star recruit Denver Harris enters transfer portal
The mass exodus of players from the Texas A&M Aggies heading into the 2023 offseason is likely something that is going to play to the benefit of Texas football. And there was one name that popped up in the NCAA Transfer Portal late this week that is a player that is familiar to the Texas fan base.
Former elite five-star Houston-area recruit and freshman cornerback Denver Harris announced on social media late in the afternoon of Dec. 2 that he intends to enter the transfer portal heading into the offseason.
Harris announced in a tweet late this week that he is “officially entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility”.
This comes after Harris, along with two other Aggies players, were suspended from the team indefinitely earlier in the fall (per a report from ESPN’s Chris Low).
Former Texas football priority CB recruit Denver Harris enters the portal
Harris will be entering the transfer portal with some baggage hanging over his head. He was suspended indefinitely from Texas A&M before he was even able to finish up his true freshman campaign.
However, Harris definitely brings a plethora of talent to the table. He was one of the highest-rated defensive recruits in the 2022 class. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns were once major players in his recruitment before he ultimately decided to commit to the No. 1-ranked Aggies 2022 recruiting class.
Prior to his suspension, Harris took more than 200 defensive snaps over the course of five games with the Aggies. The last game he played was against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 6.
In the five games he played for the Aggies during the regular season, Harris registered 14 combined tackles, no tackles for loss, six stops, no missed tackles, three pass breakups, and no picks. He was one of the highest-graded freshman cornerbacks in the SEC prior to the suspension back in late October.
We don’t have any intel at the moment leading us to believe that Texas will have interest in Harris upon his announcement that he will enter the portal this coming offseason. But he is a significant name that definitely caught the eye of the Longhorns faithful on Dec. 2.
