Big news arrived on the trail for the most important remaining target for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 21. The elite five-star Denton Ryan linebacker and former Texas A&M Aggies commit Anthony Hill Jr. looks to now have a decision date in mind and a loose idea of how the visit schedule will play out before he announces.

According to a report from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on Dec. 12 (paid content), Hill is “likely to make his announcement on Wednesday, December 21st at Ryan High School”.

This Inside Texas report also indicates that Hill is planning to make trips unofficially to Austin and College Station prior to the Dec. 21 decision date. But it doesn’t sound like there is anything officially on the books yet as to the particular dates that Hill will visit Austin and College Station.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jeff Choate are also planning an in-home visit with Hill, which is reportedly expected to take place on Dec. 15.

Priority 5-Star Texas football LB recruit Anthony Hill reportedly sets Dec. 21 decision date

It’s worth noting that this coming weekend is a massive one on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns. Key 2023 recruits such as the fast-rising three-star Pebblebrook (GA) safety Tyler Scott and four-star Waco Connally athlete Jelani McDonald are expected to visit Texas officially this coming weekend.

We also expect to see the likes of the elite five-star New Iberia Westgate (LA) safety commit Derek Williams and three-star Chicago Brother Rice defensive lineman Roderick Pierce visit Austin at some point during the upcoming weekend.

It would appear that Texas is going to push to get Hill to campus around the same time that a lot of these other priority recruits are in Austin. But that is mostly based on speculation that Texas will want to get the final word with Hill ahead of the Aggies leading into the Dec. 21 decision date.

The final decision for Hill now looks to boil down to Texas and Texas A&M, as it did during the summer when he initially committed to the Aggies over the Longhorns. Hill de-committed from Texas A&M on Nov. 7 and visited Austin once since then for the TCU game on Nov. 12.
