The second game of the Big 12 slate for acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 6 Texas basketball is set to take place on Jan. 3 against first-year head coach Jerome Tang and the upstart Kansas State Wildcats. Texas can extend its winning streak to seven games with a victory over Kansas State on Jan. 3.

In fact, both the Longhorns and Wildcats are going for seven straight wins as both teams have a lot of momentum heading into this one.

Texas comes into this game with a record of 12-1 (1-0 Big 12) following a tight 70-69 win over the Oklahoma Sooners on the road in Norman on Dec. 31. The last loss for the Longhorns came way back on Dec. 6 in the Jimmy V. Classic at the hands of the No. 17 Illinois Fighting Illini.

Meanwhile, Kansas State comes into this game with a record of 12-1 (1-0 Big 12) following a gritty 82-76 overtime win over the No. 24 West Virginia Mountaineers at home in Manhattan on Dec. 31. The last time that the Wildcats slipped up was back on Nov. 30 in a road loss to the Butler Bulldogs 76-64.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas gets set to host Kansas State at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 3.

Texas vs. Kansas State preview

Prior to a one-point loss to the Wildcats in the final meeting between these two teams last season, Texas held a five-game winning streak against Kansas State. That lone slip-up against Kansas State in the last half-dozen meetings between these two teams only came by a one-point margin at the Erwin Center in Austin on Jan. 18, 2022.

Texas is a pretty significant favorite over Kansas State, which was nearly at double digits in terms of the pre-game spread as of the afternoon of Jan. 3 (per FanDuel).

Next. 3 struggling players that must step up in January. dark

According to KenPom, the Kansas State game on Jan. 3 is the one that gives Texas the highest percentage chance to win for the remainder of the regular season (at 82 percent). Granted, KenPom projects the Longhorns to win all but two of the remaining games on the regular season schedule.

This game is a big opportunity for Texas to get a much-needed win early in the Big 12 slate. The Big 12 is going to be a real grind for the Longhorns this season.
