Stud No. 2: Brock Cunningham, F

In the best offensive outing for almost the last full month for senior forward Brock Cunningham, we saw the longest-tenured Longhorn come alive late in the second half. For the first time since the Dec. 10 win at home at the Moody Center over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, Cunningham scored more than a half-dozen points off the bench.

He put up eight points in just 14 minutes coming off the bench to go along with four rebounds, no assists, and no turnovers. Cunningham was an efficient 2-of-3 shooting from the field while going perfect on two attempts from beyond the arc and perfect on two attempts from the charity stripe.

I actually think Cunningham could’ve had a better offensive output had he taken a more aggressive approach shooting from deep. There were multiple possessions where Cunningham had some space to pull the trigger from beyond the arc and decided to pass it off instead.

Considering how Cunningham has shot 23-of-50 (46.0 percent) from beyond the arc since the start of last season, it makes sense that Terry would encourage him to take more shots from deep.

But I’m not going to complain about the offensive spark that Cunningham gave this team, especially in the second half.

Cunningham was critical to Texas’ offensive efforts late in this game, mainly when he hit a key three-pointer in the final three minutes of the game to push the lead near double digits.

He also gave the Longhorns a few critical extra possessions. Cunningham tied freshman forward Dillon Mitchell with a team-high three offensive rebounds in this game.

The overall impact that Cunningham had on this game shows up in the fact that he was second on the team in game score (7.9) and was second on the team in +/- (+10), per Stat Broadcast.
