This weekend, Texas basketball and acting head coach Rodney Terry will look to get back to their winning ways against longtime head coach Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road in Morgantown. This matchup against West Virginia will round out a two-game road stretch for Texas that began on Jan. 17 against the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones.

Texas brings a record of 15-3 (4-2 Big 12) into this matchup against West Virginia after falling short on the road at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 17 at the hands of Iowa State by the final score of 78-67. The loss to Iowa State earlier this week snapped a three-game winning streak for the Longhorns.

Meanwhile, West Virginia will be looking to extend its winning streak to two games if it can top Texas this weekend. West Virginia comes into this game with a record of 11-7 (1-5 Big 12) following an impressive 74-65 win at home at WVU Coliseum on Jan. 18 over the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs. That win over the Horned Frogs snapped a five-game losing streak for the Mountaineers.

Here’s a look at the betting odds and game prediction as Texas gets set to face West Virginia on the road at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Jan. 21, with the tip-off time set for 5 p.m. CT.

Texas basketball vs. West Virginia: Betting odds for Jan. 21

Texas is a 1.5-point underdog against West Virginia and the over/under is set at 146.5 (per FanDuel).

The moneyline narrowly favors West Virginia (-111) over Texas (-108).

According to the ESPN Basketball Power Index, Texas has a 48.3 percent chance of beating West Virginia.

Texas vs. West Virginia prediction

This is a game where Terry and the Longhorns must get back on track in a winnable contest on the road. Big 12 wins on the road are very valuable, and I know that Terry and his squad recognize this opportunity to get this thing moving in the right direction again.

West Virginia brings a high-scoring offense to the table that ranks 53rd in the country averaging nearly 78 points per game. But Big 12 defenses have started to figure out ways to slow down the West Virginia scoring offense a good bit, as the Mountaineers are scoring just 71 points per game in conference play (seventh in the Big 12).

If Texas can put up 80 or 85 points in this game, I feel good about its chances to technically pull off the upset in Morgantown.

I like senior guard Marcus Carr and senior forward Timmy Allen to have big outings for the Longhorns against a West Virginia squad led by the former Texas transfer Tre Mitchell. The former Texas and UMass big man is leading the Mountaineers in scoring, at a clip of 13.2 points per game.

We’re going with Texas to get it done on the road in front of a national television audience as this game is broadcast on ESPN’s flagship channel.

Final score prediction: Texas-86, West Virginia-78
