One of the surprise occurrences on the recruiting trail this week for the Longhorns 2023 class was the abrupt news that Texas will be hosting the highly touted four-star Red Oak (TX) defensive back Warren Roberson on a visit to Austin this weekend. Despite being committed to the TCU Horned Frogs since Halloween 2022, Roberson is still taking a handful of visits before Feb. 1.

Roberson will be making the trip to Austin after taking an unofficial visit to see USC last week. It’s also figured that the Arizona State Sun Devils are pushing to flip Roberson’s commitment from TCU along with Texas and USC.

Roberson seems to be keeping his options open heading into the late signing day after the departure of the former TCU recruiting coordinator/offensive analyst Bryan Carrington. Arizona State and new head coach Kenny Dillingham plucked Carrington out of Fort Worth last month, which likely led to Roberson forego on signing on the dotted line during the Early Signing Period a little more than one month ago.

If I had to pick one blue-chip recruit to watch heading into the late signing period that Texas has a realistic shot at flipping, it would be Roberson. Sark and the Longhorns staff already made an in-home visit with the TCU pledge in the last week. Getting the final in-person visit before Roberson makes his final decision could be huge for Texas.
