To stay in first place in the Big 12 standings, interim head coach Rodney Terry and No. 10 ranked Texas basketball must finish out the back half of this difficult four-game stretch that started last weekend on a high note. Texas is in the midst of a four-game span that sees it face four consecutive opponents ranked in the top 15.

It all started last weekend when Terry and the Longhorns faced the No. 4 ranked Tennessee Volunteers and former Texas head coach Rick Barnes in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Tennessee ultimately got the best of Texas in Knoxville by the final score of 82-71.

But Texas responded to that loss to the Vols with an impressive 76-71 win at home on Jan. 30 over the No. 11 Baylor Bears. The win over Baylor moved Texas’ record on the season to 18-4 (7-2 Big 12). Texas has also won three of its last four and six of its last eight heading into an important matchup on the road against the No. 7 ranked Kansas State Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Kansas State is one of the surprise stories in college hoops this season as first-year head coach Jerome Tang has emerged as a Coach of the Year candidate. Kansas State comes into this matchup on Feb. 4 looking for a regular season sweep of the Longhorns.

The last meeting between Texas and Kansas State resulted in an insane offensive outburst that fell in favor of the Wildcats by the final score of 116-103.

Kansas State comes into this matchup against Texas sporting a record of 18-4 (6-3 Big 12) following a 90-78 loss on the road in Lawrence on Jan. 31 at the hands of the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas hits the road to face Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan on Feb. 4.

Texas will have a game broadcast live on ESPN2 for the first time since the comeback win at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 11 over the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs. This will also be one of nine regular season games broadcast live on ESPN2 for the Longhorns.

The announcers for this matchup between Texas and Kansas State on Feb. 4 on ESPN will be Mark Neely and Chris Spatola, per Texassports.com.

Texas vs. Kansas State preview

The primary goal for the Longhorns in this game will obviously be shutting down the Kansas State offense that overwhelmed them in the 13-point loss at the Moody Center one month ago. Texas must be able to limit the standout senior point guard Markquis Nowell, who put up a whopping 36 points against them the last time out when these two teams met in Austin.

Nowell’s production hasn’t really slowed down of late, though. He’s put up at least 20 points in three of the last four outings for the Wildcats.

Kansas State is not a team to be trifled with in Manhattan, though. Tang and the Wildcats have yet to suffer a single defeat at Bramlage Coliseum this season, including two wins over ranked opponents. Granted, both top-25 games Kansas State played at home this season went to overtime.

Next. 3 struggling players that must step up in February. dark

I fully expect this game to be a barnburner between Texas and Kansas State this weekend. And if Texas can clear this hurdle, it would be huge since that would mean this team goes .500 through the most difficult four-game stretch of the regular season. That could also keep Texas in first place in the Big 12 through early next week.
