One of the biggest road tests on the Big 12 schedule for interim head coach Rodney Terry and No. 10 Texas basketball will come this weekend against the No. 7 ranked Kansas State Wildcats. Texas will look to keep its spot atop the Big 12 standings against one of the best teams in the Big 12 this season in Kansas State.

First-year head coach Jerome Tang is leading a Kansas State squad that is one of the real surprise stories in college hoops this season. Picked last in the Big 12 media preseason poll last fall, Tang and the Wildcats have proved the doubters wrong as they currently hold the highest ranking in the latest AP Poll of any team in this conference.

Kansas State also took down Texas in the first meeting between these two teams this season. The senior duo of point guard Markquis Nowell and wing Keyontae Johnson combined for more than 60 points in a complete offensive outburst for Kansas State to top Texas by an outrageous score of 116-103 at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 3.

The loss to Kansas State last month is still the only home defeat in Big 12 play to date for the Longhorns.

Moreover, Texas will be looking to extend its winning streak to two games if it can top Kansas State this weekend. Texas carries a record of 18-4 (7-2 Big 12) into this matchup against Kansas State following a 76-71 triumph over the No. 11 Baylor Bears at home at the Moody Center on Jan. 30.

Meanwhile, Kansas State is sporting a record of 18-4 (6-3 Big 12) following a 90-78 defeat on the road at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence at the hands of the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks on Jan. 31. A win for Kansas State over Texas this weekend would give these two teams identical records in conference play atop the Big 12 standings.

Here’s a look at the betting odds and game prediction as Texas gets set to face Kansas State on the road at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan on Feb. 4, with the tip-off time set for 3 p.m. CT. This game will be televised live on ESPN2.

Texas vs. Kansas State prediction

This game looks very even on paper. Both Texas and Kansas State are experienced squads with a lot of offensive weapons. Each squad also ranks in the top 35 in the country in adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency (per Kenpom).

The goal for the Longhorns in this matchup will obviously be to limit the offensive output of Kansas State. Texas gave up a record-breaking 116 points in its loss to Kansas State last month. It’s crazy to think that Texas will almost need to cut that number in half to feel good about nabbing a win in Manhattan this weekend.

Next. 3 struggling players that must step up in February. dark

If Texas is able to pull off the win in Manhattan, it will be the first casualty that Tang and the Wildcats suffered at home at Bramlage Coliseum this season. But Texas has yet to beat a single ranked opponent away from the Moody Center this season. This looks to be as good of a time as ever to get the first ranked win away from home.

Final score prediction: Texas-79, Kansas State-77
