As interim head coach Rodney Terry and No. 5 Texas basketball try to close in on the Big 12 regular season title, only a half-dozen games remain on the slate before the postseason. Texas has three games each at home and on the road to close out the regular season slate, starting with a battle on the road in Lubbock early this week against the Texas Tech Red Raiders and head coach Mark Adams.

Terry and the Longhorns will try to win their second game in a row, and fourth in the last five, against Texas Tech on Feb. 13. A key stat heading into this game is that Texas has won at least two games in a row following each of its four losses on the season, prior to the defeat at the hands of the No. 9 Kansas Jayhawks on the road at Allen Fieldhouse on Feb. 6.

Texas comes into this matchup against Texas Tech with a record of 20-5 (9-3 Big 12) following a dominant 94-60 win over head coach Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Feb. 11.

That throttling of West Virginia by the Longhorns over the weekend ties Iowa State’s win over Texas Tech in Ames on Jan. 10 for the largest margin of victory in any Big 12 game this season.

Moreover, Texas Tech will be looking to pull off yet another upset at home in Lubbock on Feb. 13. Texas Tech has defeated two straight top-15 ranked opponents at home at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, including its last win which came over the No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats on Feb. 11 by the final score of 71-63.

The win over Kansas State last weekend gives the Red Raiders a record of 13-12 (2-10 Big 12) heading into this matchup against Texas.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas gets set to square off against Texas Tech on the road at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Feb. 13.

For the fourth time in the last six contests, Texas will have a game broadcast live on ESPN’s flagship channel. According to Texassports.com, Jon Sciambi, Fran Fraschilla, and Kris Budden will have the call for this matchup between Texas and Texas Tech on ESPN on Feb. 13.

Texas vs. Texas Tech preview

Texas Tech isn’t the pushover that many people would expect them to be when you first look at the Red Raiders’ record in Big 12 play, especially when it’s at home at United Supermarkets Arena. Adams and the Red Raiders have taken down two really solid Big 12 teams in their last two games at home in No. 13 Iowa State and No. 7 Kansas State.

And given that Texas Tech already gave Texas all it could handle when these two teams met at the Moody Center in Austin last month, this is clearly a game that Terry and the Longhorns must be ready for.

Texas Tech is being guided by the standout production of the former Oklahoma Sooners and Oregon Ducks senior guard De’Vion Harmon in the last couple of weeks. Harmon has registered at least 16 points, two assists, and three rebounds in each of Texas Tech’s last four outings.

Meanwhile, Texas is led by the senior trio of guard Marcus Carr, forward Timmy Allen, and shooting guard/wing Sir’Jabari Rice. Each of those three standout Longhorns players is averaging at least a dozen points per game in Big 12 play, three rebounds, and one steal.

If Texas can nab this win over Texas Tech on Feb. 13, it would sweep the regular season series against the Red Raiders. Texas topped Texas Tech at the Moody Center in the first meeting between these two teams this season, by the final score of 72-70 on Jan. 14.

Texas Tech has owned Texas in Lubbock in the recent series history, having won two in a row and six of the last seven on its home court.
