On Feb. 13, interim head coach Rodney Terry and No. 6 ranked Texas basketball will be looking for their second straight win to sweep the regular season series against head coach Mark Adams and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

That would also be some nice revenge for the Longhorns after Texas Tech pulled off the regular season sweep of

Texas narrowly avoided the upset at the hands of Texas Tech when these two teams met at the Moody Center in Austin earlier this season. Terry and the Longhorns were able to top the Red Raiders at home at the Moody Center by the final score of 72-70 on Jan. 14. That took a second-half comeback from Texas to be able to top what was a winless Texas Tech squad last month.

Yet, Texas has looked good coming into this big Monday matchup in Lubbock. Texas comes into this battle against Texas Tech with a record of 20-5 (9-3 Big 12) following a dominant 94-60 win over head coach Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers at home at the Moody Center on Feb. 11.

If Texas can top Texas Tech on Feb. 13, it would be the second win in a row and the fourth in the last five games for Terry’s squad.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech comes into this game with a record of 13-12 (2-10 Big 12) after an upset 71-63 win over the No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats at home at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Feb. 11. While Texas Tech only has two wins in conference play this season, each has come at home in the span of the last four games over ranked opponents.

Texas Tech beat No. 13 Iowa State in overtime on Jan. 30 and then got a pretty comfortable win over Kansas State over the weekend.

Here’s a look at the betting odds and game prediction as Texas gets set to face Texas Tech on the road at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Feb. 13, with the tip-off time set for 8 p.m. CT. This game will be televised live on ESPN’s flagship network.

Texas vs. Texas Tech prediction

Since Texas Tech was able to pull off the upset of two-straight top-15-ranked Big 12 opponents in Lubbock in the last couple of weeks, I have to say that this is a game where I have to put Texas on upset alert. Texas Tech has taken care of business often against the Longhorns in Lubbock in the recent history of this matchup.

According to Sports Reference, Texas Tech has won two in a row and six of the last seven matchups against Texas.

Although, this is still a matchup that Texas must win if it wants to be able to stay firmly in the driver’s seat in the race to secure the Big 12 regular season title. Texas currently sits in outright first place in the Big 12 standings ahead of the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks and No. 9 Baylor Bears.

Texas must be able to slow down the likes of the former Oregon Ducks and Oklahoma Sooners senior transfer guard De’Vion Harmon and senior forward Kevin Obanor to take care of business in Lubbock. I think this will be a close one where senior guard Marcus Carr and senior forward Timmy Allen ultimately lift Texas over Texas Tech by a one-possession margin.

Final score prediction: Texas-76, Texas Tech-73
