Christian Bishop responds in a big way with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks off the bench

The performance that senior big man Christian Bishop had in Texas’ win over Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood over the weekend was less than stellar.

According to Sports Reference, Bishop actually posted the lowest game score of the season for him thus far in the win over Oklahoma on Feb. 19.

Bishop only played 10 minutes off the bench for Texas against Oklahoma last weekend, managing just two points on 1-of-2 shooting from the field. He also turned the ball over once and didn’t post a single rebound, assist, steal, and/or block.

What caused Bishop to only log 10 minutes off the bench against the Sooners was the fact that he ran into foul trouble pretty fast. He raked in four personal fouls in a span of just under nine minutes on the floor.

That forced Terry to put him back on the bench before Bishop was really able to make an impact on any part of that game.

Yet, I do have faith that Bishop is set to have a nice outing against Iowa State to get the stretch run going on a high note for his super senior campaign.

We’re following a similar theme for the second spot on this list as we did for the first bold prediction. Similar to that of Holmes, I think that Bishop will be in a great spot to have a huge bounce-back performance against Iowa State early this week.

Ironically, while Bishop’s lowest game score of the season came in the win over Oklahoma on Feb. 19, the second-best game score in Big 12 play this year came in the loss to Iowa State last month. Bishop really set the tone for Texas early in the first half in Ames against Iowa State on Jan. 17, leading to a solid stat line of a dozen points off the bench (4-of-7 from the field), five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks.

Bishop was able to find his spot in the post and really lock in against Iowa State the first time these two teams met this season. He also came up huge in terms of the rim protection he provided to Texas in that game.

If Bishop can provide that type of production off the bench for Texas in this game, I have a hard time seeing this one slip away from Terry and the Longhorns at home.
