The first of two games left on the home slate for Texas basketball during the 2022-23 regular season will take place on Feb. 21 at the Moody Center in Austin against the No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones. Interim head coach Rodney Terry will be looking to avenge Texas’ loss on the road in Ames last month at the hands of head coach TJ Otzelberger and the Cyclones early this week.

This game is about as close to a must-win game at home as there will be for the remainder of the regular season. If Terry and the Longhorns want to stay in the thick of the race for the Big 12 regular season crown, they will need to beat Iowa State at home on Feb. 21.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier from here, as Texas rounds out the regular season by facing the No. 24 TCU Horned Frogs and No. 9 Baylor Bears on the road. And then, the regular season finale comes at home at the Moody Center in Austin on March 4 against the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks.

Moreover, Texas comes into this matchup against Iowa State sporting a record of 21-6 (10-4 Big 12) following a narrow 85-83 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime at home on Feb. 18. Texas has won two of its last three and four of its last six.

Meanwhile, Iowa State boasts a record of 17-9 (8-6 Big 12) after a tough 61-55 loss on the road at the hands of the No. 12 Kansas State Wildcats on Feb. 18. Iowa State is trending down of late, as it has lost three of its last four and five of its last seven games.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas gets set to host Iowa State at the Moody Center in Austin on Feb. 21.

Texas vs. Iowa State preview

As previously mentioned, Texas will be looking to avenge its loss to Iowa State earlier in the season, which came on the road at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 17 by the final score of 78-67. The margin of defeat against Iowa State last month ties the largest for Texas in any of its half-dozen losses on the season so far.

That should be more than enough motivation for the Longhorns to come out of the gates firing in this game.

Another factor working in the Longhorns’ favor in this game is the fact that Iowa State has struggled so much on the road this season. Iowa State has lost each of its last six games on the road. And it has a total record of 2-7 in road games this season.

Compare that to its home record of 6-1 on the season, and you can see the stark contrast between the ways that Iowa State shows up at Hilton and on the road this year.

Texas also needs to play better than it has in the last week or so if it wants to take care of business against Iowa State. In the last two games, Texas came up with a win and a loss against the bottom two teams in the Big 12 Oklahoma and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

This team has to be better than that if it wants a shot at the Big 12 regular season crown and a one or two-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
