Among the biggest recent additions to the visitor list for Texas football on the recruiting trail in the spring and summer this offseason is the elite 2026 Carrollton (GA) quarterback Julian Lewis. Texas is set to host Lewis for his third unofficial visit to Austin on the weekend of March 24.

Lewis will be on campus in Austin around the same time that the Longhorns are hosting the second Junior Day of the offseason. The first Junior Day weekend for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns came back on Jan. 21, which also happened to be Lewis’ first trip to the Forty Acres of 2023.

And the first visit that Lewis took to Austin came last summer, on the weekend of June 11.

It’s clear that Lewis is firmly on the radar for QB coach AJ Milwee, Sark, and the Longhorns as one of the top priority targets in the 2026 class. But he might not be in the 2026 class when his recruitment wraps up if some recent discussions and rumors end up coming to fruition.

Various reports and rumors of late have mentioned the possibility of Lewis reclassifying to the 2025 class. A piece from Donovan James of Trojans Wire last month noted that Lewis is so “advanced” that it would essentially make sense for him to reclassify to the 2025 class.

And a report from CJ Vogel of TFB Texas (donor content) on Feb. 23 further discusses the possibility of Lewis “expediting” his recruitment by potentially reclassifying to the 2025 class.

Priority 2026 Texas football QB target Julian Lewis reclassifying to the 2025 class?

Purely from the perspective of advanced technique and skill set, I could completely understand the argument that it’s worth Lewis at least thinking about the idea of reclassifying to the 2025 class. He already proved that he can excel against a high level of competition in Georgia high school football.

He threw for more than 4,100 yards and 48 touchdowns as a true freshman at Carrollton High School last fall. And he’s only continued to excel in the 7v7 circuit and the camp/combine setting early this offseason.

Another interesting tidbit is something that Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports tweeted out in the fall of 2021. Wiltfong posted on his Twitter timeline in September 2021 that “2025 signal-caller” Lewis was visiting Georgia Tech.

I will say that I don’t know if this was a mistake or if Wiltfong was hinting at something here. This is all speculation, but something that caught my eye either way. I did some digging to see if I could find any solid evidence that Wiltfong put out there that Lewis is planning on reclassifying to the 2025 class. But I could not find anything.

All in all, it does make sense that Lewis would consider reclassifying to the 2025 class to speed up his recruitment. He’s clearly the most coveted and advanced quarterback among the spotlighted prospects at the position in the 2026 class early on.

We’ve seen other elite quarterback prospects that are advanced beyond their years reclassify before (i.e. Quinn Ewers, Colin Hurley, JT Daniels, etc.).

dark. Next. 3 true freshmen that stole the show in winter S&C

At the moment, Lewis is the only quarterback prospect that the Longhorns have offered in the 2026 class. He was also among the first few recruits that Texas offered in the 2026 class. He’s someone that Sark and Milwee have clearly identified as an early priority for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail.
