Ahead of the tip-off between the two-seed Texas basketball and the five-seed Miami Hurricanes in the Elite Eight on March 26, interim head coach Rodney Terry and his squad got some bad injury news. Multiple reports (including from ESPN) on March 26 have ruled senior Texas big man Dylan Disu out of the Elite Eight matchup against Miami due to an apparent left foot injury.

Disu initially hurt his foot in Texas’ Round of 32 win over the 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions on March 18. But he was able to progress enough throughout the week prior to the Sweet 16 matchup against the three-seed Xavier Musketeers to be able to at least appear in the starting five for Terry and the Longhorns.

He would only play in under two minutes against Xavier on March 24, though, before he was sidelined for the rest of that Sweet 16 matchup. Disu would later be seen in a walking boot on the sideline for the Longhorns in the win over Xavier.

Texas basketball will be without standout big man Dylan Disu in Elite Eight vs. Miami

Terry talked about Disu’s progress in regard to this lower-body injury in a press conference earlier in the week.

"“Dylan obviously worked really hard to get to this point of the season right now. We went through the Big 12 tournament without Timmy Allen, a guy that had become a real focal point of our offense down the stretch in Big 12 play. Next man up had to step in and do the job for us.”"

In that press conference, Terry emphasized the depth and the next-man-up approach that the Longhorns have taken through some recent injury issues to key players in the rotation. Senior forward Timmy Allen missed the entirety of the Big 12 Men’s Tournament earlier this month due to a lower-body injury.

Texas will now have to fight through a really important NCAA Tournament game without potentially its most valuable player over the course of the last month or so in the Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player Disu.
