Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian are officially just two weeks away from the annual Orange-White spring football game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. On April 15, the Texas faithful will get to see this team take to the field at DKR for some sort of game action for the first time since last fall.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the direction of this program under Sark’s guidance this spring. Texas has a plethora of talent and depth that seems to be getting developed a lot faster and more effectively than it was under the previous two coaching regimes.

We continue to hear about new additions to the team and some rising upperclassmen challenging the returning starters in ways that are very encouraging in terms of how deep this team could look in the fall.

Moreover, Texas is in the closing stages of spring ball as of April 1. Sark and the Longhorns held one of the final half-dozen spring practices this weekend. Here’s a look at some of the Longhorns players that shined in Saturday’s spring practice on April 1.

Casey Cain, WR

In the last week or so, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Casey Cain is a name that we keep hearing over and over again. And it’s nothing but positive feedback that we’ve received regarding the way Cain performed in practice and the open scrimmage in the last 10 days or so.

Cain has dramatically improved as a route runner and his ability to bring down contested balls on the boundary in the last couple of weeks in spring camp.

A practice report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas on April 1 (paid content) mentioned that Cain made a few nice catches during the team drills on Saturday. The same could be said for his performance in practice a couple of days ago.

We already talked this week about how Cain was looking like one of the most improved underclassmen for the Longhorns so far this spring. And in the two practices since the writing of that article earlier this week, Cain has only continued to make some of the necessary strides to compete for a spot on the two-deep at boundary receiver.
