Amid the more concerning injury issues that the Longhorns dealt with in practice this week was a reported groin problem that the former Wake Forest Demon Deacons redshirt junior cornerback Gavin Holmes suffered on April 4.

Holmes apparently practiced through a lingering groin issue (what possibly sounds like a strain) throughout this week. He also played through the groin issue during the closed scrimmage on April 7.

It’s interesting to note that Holmes is trying to play and practice through a groin issue in the late stages of spring ball. This is usually the type of injury that will keep a corner that is projected to be on the two-deep out for precautionary reasons.

I have to agree with the sentiment that Ian Boyd of Inside Texas/On Texas Football mentioned on April 7 where he expressed some concern about the idea that Holmes is practicing through this groin issue.

We see how long Keilan has remained or limited this spring for the Longhorns. Keilan just so happens to also be dealing with a groin issue. A combination of depth in the running back room and precaution for Keilan’s health this year has limited him both in RB and team drills since the start of spring ball.

I would think that with the depth and talent that Texas has at corner this spring that Holmes might be more limited in drills.

We have to trust the coaching staff’s judgment letting Holmes continue to practice and scrimmage in the latter stages of spring ball. But this is something we will be keeping an eye on for the next week or so as the spring game approaches on April 15.
