There aren’t many players left on the Longhorns roster that either haven’t already run out of eligibility, announced their return for the 2023-24 season, or have declared for the NBA Draft/entered the transfer portal. One of the few Longhorns players who we’re waiting on a decision from this offseason is senior big man Dylan Disu.

Disu enjoyed a breakout stretch run in the season that was. He was the Big 12 Men’s Tournament Most Outstanding Player and was well on his way to earning NCAA All-Tournament honors with his blazing-hot start to the Big Dance last month.

Before Disu went down with a lower-body injury following the five-point Round of 32 win over the 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions, he still looked the part of the Longhorns’ most valuable player. Disu put up a double-double while averaging nearly two dozen points per game in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for Texas.

Disu would clearly be a valuable player for the Longhorns to get back in the mix for next season. Terry and the Longhorns need an impact big man to hold down the starting spot at the five. And Disu is probably the best option for the Longhorns regardless if you want to consider the players coming into the mix next season or any of the big men available in the portal at the moment.

Yet, I think there is a good chance that Disu could test the waters in the 2023 NBA Draft after his strong run late in the season for the Longhorns. Disu has tested the waters in the NBA Draft before, which happened before he came to Texas in 2021 after transferring from Vanderbilt.

I don’t know if Disu would be inclined to test the waters in the portal again if the NBA Draft doesn’t work out. But what I do know is that Disu is one of the few remaining Longhorns players that either hasn’t already told the staff he’s returning to Texas next season or that hasn’t already found a reason to depart.
