Another big that Texas faced on the hardwood not too long ago that it has contacted in the portal is the former Penn State Nittany Lions towering 6-foot-10 and 240-pound center Kebba Njie. Terry and the Longhorns faced Njie and the Nittany Lions in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament last month.

And while Njie didn’t put much of a dent in the box score in terms of his production for Penn State in the Round of 32 against Texas, it looks like his length and raw talent appeal to the Longhorns’ staff.

Njie was a rotational big man for the Nittany Lions during his true freshman campaign last season. While he did start 26 games for former head coach Micah Shrewsberry and the Nittany Lions last season, his minutes were limited to just over 14 per game.

The former blue-chip recruit Njie is a physically-gifted big man that is still developing his fundamental game in the post. He’s starting to develop a solid back-to-the-basket offensive game and he’s a solid rebounder that is hard to move down low.

Njie played most of his minutes at the five at Penn State last season. He would fit a similar role at Texas, as a center that could help the Horns win battles on the glass while still being able to run fluidly in transition and get some easy baskets near the bucket.

A tweet from Jon Rothstein on the morning of April 9 confirms that Texas was one of the schools he’s receiving interest from” since his name surfaced in the transfer portal on April 3. Some of the other programs pursuing Njie in the portal are the Indiana Hoosiers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Njie is probably looked at as more of a depth player in the frontcourt unit that could be developed into a quality starting big man in a couple of years. Since Njie has three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop out of the portal, he has some time to be developed.
