This spring was a big time on the recruiting trail for head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas football in the 2024 class. Texas had a couple of big visit weekends in the midst of spring ball, namely with the second Junior Day of the offseason being hosted on March 25.

Sark and the Longhorns got to host a couple dozen key targets on the recruiting trail in the 2024 and 2025 classes for the Junior Day cookout and viewing of an open scrimmage on the weekend of March 25.

One of the visitors that made his way to the Forty Acres for the Junior Day festivities a few weekends ago that was on the Longhorns’ radar for a good while now is the highly touted four-star Schertz Smithson Valley (TX) wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr.

Dubose made his fifth visit to Austin since 2022 and his first of the 2023 offseason for Junior Day on March 25. And it sounds like this visit was a rousing success for Texas and the talented in-state wideout.

It looks like Texas made a big impression on Dubose. In fact, this might be the best visit yet for Dubose to the 40 since Texas first offered on Jan. 22, 2022.

A piece from Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods this week got Dubose’s reaction and thoughts to the Junior Day visit to Austin on March 25. Dubose mentioned that “it was probably the best visit I’ve ever gone on to Texas” in this piece from Suchomel.

Texas didn’t have as many visitors for Junior Day last month, which looks to have hit home with Dubose.

"“I just feel like the atmosphere just felt different this time from when I went the last time. The coaching staff, coach Sark – I got to talk to them for a good hour.”"

Dubose got to talk one-on-one with Sark, which made him feel like he was wanted by the Longhorns. It also sounds like Sark and the Longhorns staff did a nice job making Dubose feel comfortable during his Junior Day trip.

"“There weren’t a thousand kids, but felt like there was a good amount. There were probably 30 to 40 of us. When I talked to Sark, he was honestly just checking up on me, asking how everything had been, saying how I’m a top guy at receiver, how he wants me to come play ball over there and run track.”"

Sark and new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson have done a nice job in the last few months making a strong impression on Dubose and his family. Even his mom was reportedly impressed with what she saw at Junior Day from Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns.

Moreover, Dubose will soon be taking his official visits, which will likely take place during the summer and fall. He mentioned in this piece from Suchomel that he wants to take his official visits to see the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas, Tennessee Volunteers, and Penn State Nittany Lions.

Dubose’s next visit looks to be an unofficial trip to College Station on April 15 to see the Texas A&M spring game.
