The top-ranked running back recruit in the nation in the 2024 class, the elite five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson, is at the top of the board for the Longhorns this spring. Gibson has an extremely close relationship with Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice.

That relationship with Choice could soon pay dividends for the Longhorns in this recruitment.

I can’t think of a school that is currently in a better spot in the race to land a commitment from Gibson than Texas. Gibson has visited Texas more often than any other school that’s offered him in the last few months.

We talked on the site last week that Gibson was extremely impressed with the visit he took to Austin for the Orange-White spring football game at DKR 10 days ago. Gibson had another successful trip to the 40 for the spring game a couple of weekends ago. And it sounds like the trips just get more and more comfortable for Gibson and his camp on the Forty Acres in the last six or eight months.

In fact, it looks as if the last couple of visits for Gibson to the 40 have gone so well that he could make a return trip to Austin before his official visit in late June. That goes to show where Texas stands in this recruitment heading into the summer that Gibson is potentially willing to make a return visit for the second time this spring.

Moreover, it will only help Texas’ case in this recruitment that Choice is getting out to Bradenton, FL, to see Gibson at IMG Academy during spring ball this week. Staying in constant communication with Gibson will be key as the Longhorns try to fend off spring pushes from the likes of the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators to win over the nation’s top running back recruit for this cycle.

It looks like Choice is set to make the trip to see Gibson at IMG after his visit with another top priority running back recruit in the 2024 class, four-star Arizona RB Christian Clarke.
