Texas Football: Chiefs sign S Anthony Cook as undrafted free agent
A couple of former Texas football players have now inked deals as undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft on April 29. The most recent Texas Ex to sign a deal as an undrafted free agent with an NFL team on this night is senior starting safety, Anthony Cook.
The 6-foot-1 and 200-pound Cook inked a deal with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on April 29. Cook will now join the likes of defensive end Charles Omenihu and defensive tackle Keondre Coburn as the former Longhorns on the Chiefs roster this year.
Coburn was the only Longhorn selected by the Chiefs in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was picked by the Chiefs 194th overall in the sixth round of the draft.
Moreover, the Chiefs are getting a good one for a bargain in the multi-year Texas starting DB Cook. The former top-50-rated recruit out of Houston Lamar High School was productive and reliable playing at multiple different positions in the secondary for the Longhorns in the last five seasons.

Cook really played wherever Texas needed him in the secondary in the last few years. Over the course of his five years at Texas, Cook registered nearly 170 career combined tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
With the Chiefs, Cook could fill a role as a depth safety, nickel, or slot corner. He excelled in all three of those spots in Texas’ secondary at different points in his last four seasons on campus.
Cook is now one of two Texas defensive backs that have signed as undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft. The other is former starting Texas senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a UDFA.
Texas had a successful 2023 draft class in the last few days. Star running back Bijan Robinson ended Texas’ first-round pick drought when the Atlanta Falcons selected him eighth overall.
The other three Texas Exes that were drafted in 2023 were senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (Dallas Cowboys, third round), senior running back Roschon Johnson (Chicago Bears, fourth round), and senior defensive lineman Moro Ojomo (Philadelphia Eagles, seventh round).
