Selman Bridges, CB

One of the top two in-state defensive back priorities for the Longhorns in the 2024 class this spring is the highly touted four-star Temple Lake Belton cornerback Selman Bridges. Among the recruits in the 2024 class that Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph is pursuing on the trail this spring, Bridges and the elite five-star Waco Connally cornerback Kobe Black are the top priorities hands down.

Bridges is a recruit that Texas made a huge move with in 2023. Joseph, Sark, and the Longhorns have fantastic relationships built with Bridges and his family. That led to the highly-anticipated first visit that Bridges made unofficially to the 40 on the second Junior Day of the offseason (March 25) being very successful.

Texas will have a chance to make another big move with Bridges and his camp when he makes the official trip to Austin on the weekend of June 24. There is a chance that Texas could get the final official visit of the summer for Bridges, which could give the Longhorns’ staff a sizable leg up in this recruitment heading into the fall.

Even before the official visit takes place, though, most of the buzz concerning Bridges’ decision heavily favors the Longhorns in the last month or so. As long as Texas keeps making Bridges a top priority and keeps the communication strong, I think this will be their recruitment to lose.

Mike Roach of Horns247 mentioned in a report earlier this month (paid content) that Texas is currently “standing tall” in this recruitment.

That sentiment is being echoed by a multitude of other sources and reports going back to the conclusion of Bridges’ visit for Junior Day and the open practice/scrimmage on March 25.
