The most impactful priority target in the portal for Terry and the Longhorns, as we turn the calendar to May, is the former UT-Arlington Mavericks freshman sharpshooting guard Chendall Weaver. The reigning WAC Freshman of the Year is the floor-spacing two-guard that the Longhorns need to add to the backcourt unit alongside and potentially rising junior guard Tyrese Hunter (if he withdraws from the 2023 NBA Draft).

Weaver is set to make the trip to the Forty Acres later this week. He will begin a multi-day visit on May 3, which is roughly the time that Onyema will be wrapping up his trip to Austin this week.

Texas is going to have some pretty fierce competition in this portal recruitment, though. It looks like the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Tech will also make significant pushes in the race to land a commitment out of the portal from Weaver.

Inside Texas reported on May 1 (paid content) that Weaver is currently on a visit to College Station to see Texas A&M. It is also being reported that Weaver is set to make the trip to Lubbock to see Texas Tech this weekend, once his visit to Texas wraps up.

Texas can make a big impression on Weaver during his official visit to the 40 in the middle of this week. But it will have to sell the ability for Weaver to come in and make an impact right away on a championship-contending team in the Big 12 and on the national scene to be able to beat out Texas A&M and Texas Tech when it’s all said and done in this portal recruitment.
