We’ve already talked ad nauseam in the last few weeks about the impact that the former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore wide receiver transfer AD Mitchell had on the Longhorns so far this spring. Mitchell made a big splash right away in practice, earning the first-team practice reps at the boundary receiver position within the first couple of weeks of camp.

Make no mistake about it, Mitchell definitely earned those first-team practice reps at boundary receiver over redshirt sophomore wideout Casey Cain. Mitchell looked the part of a dominant boundary wideout that will bring a high level of skill and playmaking ability to this offense for the 2023 season.

There is a very valid case to be made that Mitchell will wind up being the most impactful transfer on the Longhorns during the 2023 season. He makes the difference of Texas having a legitimate taller target on the boundary that redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers can look to threaten opposing defenses on a consistent basis.

Mitchell’s presence will allow Sark and the Longhorns to open up the offense with more complex and layered concepts with four wide receivers. Just think of what Texas can do with a five-man receiver combo on the field this fall of junior Xavier Worthy, redshirt junior Isaiah Neyor, junior JT Sanders, Whittington, and Mitchell.

It also helps that Mitchell has been there and done that in the postseason as a reigning back-to-back National Champion at Georgia. The combination of veteran experience and playmaking ability on the boundary that Mitchell brings to the table will be invaluable for the Longhorns this fall.
