Last weekend turned out to have a pretty important visitor list for Texas football recruiting in the midst of the spring evaluation period. Texas hosted a few blue-chip recruits on the 40 for unofficial visits last weekend, made up of prospects in the 2024 and 2025 classes.

The highest-rated of the 2025 visitors in Austin last weekend was the highly touted four-star Lewisville (TX) offensive tackle Michael Fasusi. The 6-foot-5 and 290-pound Fasusi is the top-ranked offensive tackle prospect in the state in the 2025 class.

Thus, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns are making Fasusi’s recruitment a top priority early in this cycle.

The unofficial visit that Fasusi took to Austin last weekend was his first since receiving an offer from Texas on Feb. 1, 2023. And it sounds like Texas really knocked this one out of the park from the early returns following Fasusi’s trip to the 40, which started on May 12.

Texas football builds a strong connection with 4-Star 2025 OT Michael Fasusi during last weekend’s visit

Fasusi told Justin Wells of Inside Texas (paid content) that the trip to the Forty Acres last weekend was “awesome”. He also mentioned that the atmosphere that the coaches created on campus was very welcoming to Fasusi and his family.

"“I loved the way I was welcomed, loved seeing the coaches, the energy was all there and it felt like home.”"

Flood, head coach Steve Sarkisian, and the Longhorns are doing a fantastic job of making Fasusi feel like a top priority in the 2025 class. He came out of this visit feeling the love, showing that Texas made the right impression during Fasusi’s trip to the 40.

It’s worth noting that Fasusi will reportedly be planning to make a return visit to Austin in early June. That will give Texas another opportunity to build on this relationship with its top offensive tackle priority in-state in the 2025 class this summer.

I have to say that Texas definitely made a big move in this recruitment with the successful trip to Austin for Fasusi and his family last weekend. Flood and the Longhorns needed to set a strong foundation in this recruitment after Fasusi took multiple unofficial trips to see the Texas A&M Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners already this offseason.

Yet, if there was any lead that Texas A&M and Oklahoma had in this recruitment last week, I think Texas made up a lot of ground with both the offer and this initial visit to Austin.

Along with the planned return visit to Austin next month, it sounds like Fasusi is looking to make unofficials to see Oklahoma and the LSU Tigers this summer. I think Texas will have a shot to make a move to establish itself as one of the top two or three schools in this recruitment if it can build on the successful trip last weekend with another one next month.
