Texas Basketball: Predicting each remaining portal commit for the Horns
Arthur Kaluma, F
Terry and the Longhorns are looking to add some length and two-way prowess to the forward rotation this offseason. And the former Creighton Blue Jays 6-foot-7 and 220-pound standout sophomore forward Arthur Kaluma checks a lot of the boxes in terms of what the Longhorns are looking for in the portal ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Kaluma is a big-game player that can get to the rim and finish through contact. On the defensive end of the floor, Kaluma is a switchable player that is able to guard almost every single position between the one and the four.
That type of versatility on the defensive end isn’t really something that the Longhorns have in the mix among any of the players on the current projected roster for next season. Kaluma could be the glue that holds it all together for Texas’ starting unit on the defensive end, bridging the gap between the length and rim protection that Shedrick and Disu bring to the table along with solidifying some of the question marks that come with a backcourt duo of Abmas and Hunter.
At the moment, Kaluma is still in the 2023 NBA Draft player pool after he declared early this spring. After competing in the 2023 NBA Draft Combine last week, Kaluma will have to make a decision on whether he will return to college by May 31.
Assuming he does decide to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to college for at least one more season, Texas would be one of the schools legitimately in contention to land the former Creighton standout. If Kaluma were to hypothetically commit to Texas out of the portal in the next few weeks, he should be penciled in as the starter at the three.
