The clear-cut top running back priority in the 2024 class for running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns is the elite five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson. The top-ranked running back recruit in the nation in the 2024 class has trended Texas for the last few months now.

Choice might have the best relationship of any position coach in this recruitment for Gibson. The relationship between Choice and Gibson goes back more than a year since the second-year Texas RB coach was recruiting him when he was still on staff with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets a couple of years ago.

There is a ton of confidence on the Texas side right now in this recruitment. And that has remained the case since the winter months as Gibson has become such a frequent visitor throughout the offseason.

And while it sounds like the Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators, and Florida State Seminoles are still pushing in this recruitment heading into the summer, Texas still holds a sizable lead ahead of the late June official visit for this elite running back recruit.

Gibson has made two unofficial visits to Miami this spring (March 25 and May 20), nd he’s set to officially visit Coral Gables on June 9. He’s also set to see Georgia (June 2), Tennessee (June 16), and Texas (June 24) this summer.

Texas will take its swing at shutting down this recruitment as it is set to get the final in-person visit with Gibson among the officials he currently has set for June.
