Kobe Black, CB

The top cornerback priority for the Longhorns in the 2024 class this summer is clearly the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally product Kobe Black. The top-ranked cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class has remained one of the most wanted targets on the defensive side of the ball for most of this cycle.

Texas has started to emerge as the leader in this recruitment during the spring. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns made a big impression on Black during his unofficial trip to the 40 for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.

And the communication has remained solid between Black and Joseph throughout the last few months.

Texas has done a nice job of selling Black on the immediate playing time he could get on the 40 upon the potential early departure of redshirt junior cornerback Ryan Watts to the NFL Draft next offseason. Black wants the chance at early playing time, so this selling point is key for the Longhorns to be able to win this recruitment.

There could still be more twists and turns before Black is ready to make a decision. But Texas currently looks like it’s in a fantastic spot with Black heading into the June 23 official visit.

Black will also see the Ohio State Buckeyes from June 16-18. And it wouldn’t surprise me to see him take more official visits later in the summer and during the fall if Texas isn’t able to get him to shut things down later this month.

I will say that there’s a chance that this recruitment goes the distance. But the hope for the Longhorns is that they’re able to make a big enough move during Black’s big June 23-25 official visit to Austin to be able to begin sealing the deal with the elite cornerback recruit.
