This week saw Texas football kick off its massive visit season on the recruiting trail for the month of June. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian literally hosted their first 2024 official visitor of the month on June 1, with the highly touted four-star Laguna Beach (CA) tight end Ryner Swanson making the trip to Austin in the last 24 hours.

Texas will have a couple of big unofficial visit weekends starting on June 3 until the 2024 official visits really start to get underway on the 40. Sark and the Longhorns staff will have more than three dozen official visitors on campus on the weekends of June 16 and 23.

But Texas seemingly lost one of the official visitors it had on the docket for the month of June this week. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas reported (paid content) on June 1 that four-star San Marcos (TX) offensive tackle Ory Williams has canceled the official visit to Texas that was originally scheduled for June 23.

Williams apparently feels like he’s already seen Texas enough throughout the recruiting process.

"“I feel like I have been there enough. They are right down the road. I know I can go anytime. I just feel like I can put my eyes on another school.”"

It sounds like Williams is prioritizing visits to other schools this summer. He has official visits scheduled to see the Florida Gators (June 2), LSU Tigers (June 9), and Georgia Bulldogs (June 16). It also looks like future official visits could be in the cards for the USC Trojans and Texas A&M Aggies.

Williams also told IT in this report that he could visit Texas officially if time opens up on his schedule later in the summer (maybe in July).

The leader in this recruitment currently looks to be LSU. Williams has a close relationship with LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis, and he buys into the ability of the Tigers’ staff to develop him at the collegiate level.

The communication between Texas’ staff and Williams seems to have waned in the last few months as offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns have started to prioritize other offensive tackle recruits in the 2024 class.
