Head coach David Pierce and the two-seed Texas baseball will open up the Coral Gables Regional with Game 1 against the three-seed Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on June 2. Texas is looking to advance to super regionals for the third straight year and for the fourth consecutive postseason appearance (dating back to 2018).

Pierce and the Longhorns have made it all the way to the College World Series in each of their last three postseason appearances.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, though, let’s take a look at what lies ahead for the Longhorns in the Coral Gables Regional (hosted by the No. 9 Miami Hurricanes) this weekend.

Texas comes into regionals with a record of 38-20 (15-9 Big 12) after an early exit in the Big 12 Baseball Championship in Arlington, TX, last week. The Kansas schools knocked out the Longhorns in its first two games of the Big 12 Tournament. Although, Texas did claim a share of the Big 12 regular season title a couple of weeks ago after coming up with an impressive three-game series sweep of the No. 6 West Virginia Mountaineers.

Meanwhile, Louisiana comes into the Coral Gables Regional with a record of 40-22 (18-12 Sun Belt) after falling short of the No. 16 Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the final of the Sun Belt Tournament on May 28. Louisiana was one of the top teams in a resurgent Sun Belt during the regular season.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and betting odds as the two-seed Texas gets set to face the three-seed Louisiana in Game 1 of the Coral Gables Regional on June 2, with the first pitch time set for 1 p.m. CT.

Texas LHP Lucas Gordon (6-1, 2.55 ERA) vs. UL RHP Jackson Nezuh (6-1, 6.14 ERA)

Getting the call on the mound to open up the Coral Gables Regional for the Longhorns is the standout junior left-hander Lucas Gordon. The 2023 All-American Gordon was stellar for Texas so far this season, as he leads the Big 12 in earned run average.

Coming into the postseason, Gordon leads all pitchers on the four teams in the Coral Gables Regional in ERA.

Gordon is no stranger to these situations either. He’s appeared in four postseason games already in his collegiate career over the prior two seasons, including a stellar showing in the Austin Regional last season where he nabbed a win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in a quality start on June 4, 2022.

The winner of Texas-Louisiana will face the winner of Miami-Maine in Game 4 on June 3, at 5 p.m. CT. Meanwhile, the loser of each game will face each other in Game 3 on June 3, at 11 a.m. CT.

Regionals are double-elimination, so the Longhorns will play at least two games this postseason. The magic number to make it through regionals will be three wins.
