A top-rated wide receiver offer for the Longhorns and new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson in the 2024 class is the high four-star Midlothian (TX) product Bryant Wesco. The No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the nation in the 2024 class (from 247Sports) was someone that Texas had a hard time asserting itself with among Wesco’s top schools during the spring.

Texas was pretty late to the game in terms of getting involved in this recruitment too. Texas offered Wesco on Feb. 1, 2023. And while it looked like the Texas offer did catch Wesco’s attention, the Longhorns still weren’t making the necessary impression to get him on the books for an official visit this summer.

The school that originally looked to be leader in the race to land a commitment from Wesco was the Oklahoma Sooners. He had a connection to OU with his sister looking to play volleyball for the Sooners. But she never enrolled in Norman, and OU started to fall by the wayside among Wesco’s top schools late in the spring.

That opened the door for other contenders for Wesco such as the Clemson Tigers, LSU Tigers, and TCU Horned Frogs to make their move. Clemson quickly took the position as the favorite for Wesco heading into his early June official visit to see head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tiger campus.

Wesco announced his commitment to Clemson on June 6, 2023, giving the Tigers another top-ranked recruit out of the state of Texas in the last few cycles.
