Texas Football: 3 biggest 2024 recruiting misses for the Longhorns so far
Peyton Woodyard, S
A recruitment that got pretty crazy toward the end prior to the day of the announcement involved the highly touted four-star Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco safety Peyton Woodyard. Texas was involved in this recruitment going back to the beginning of last offseason, as Woodyard visited Austin unofficially twice (in January and June 2022).
But Texas was figured to mostly be an afterthought heading into Woodyard’s announcement at the All-American Bowl in January 2023. The Georgia Bulldogs and USC Trojans were figured to be the top schools that Woodyard would be deciding between when he announced his commitment in early January.
Texas started to pick up a lot of steam in the late stages before Woodyard’s announcement, though. It got to the point where Texas was actually the trendy pick in the week leading up to Woodyard’s commitment.
Yet, Texas would fall just short of getting its first elite defensive commitment to the 2024 class when he picked Georgia over the Longhorns and Trojans.
Woodyard is still taking his official visits during the summer, as he’ll see the likes of Ohio State, USC, and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also made the official trip to Georgia last weekend.
Texas isn’t on the list of schools that Woodyard will officially visit this summer. Maybe Texas can get back on his radar during the fall if the Longhorns can prove it is trending up to the heights of programs like Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama.
