Quinn Ewers, QB

One of the most hotly-discussed Longhorns players of the offseason is the former No. 1 rated recruit in the nation in the 2021 class and redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers. The second-year starting quarterback for the Longhorns has shown more mental maturity and composure on the practice field since the spring.

We’ve also continued to hear positive returns regarding Ewers’ progress as a leader in practice and in the weight room early in summer workouts. Ewers was another one of the multiple upperclassmen named among the “vocal leaders” that are standing out early this summer in that IT report.

There are other outlets and sources that we’ve heard from, though, in the last couple of weeks that are saying that Ewers keeps showing growth and more leadership traits than ever before since the start of spring camp.

And not only is Ewers showing more leadership traits as more of a vocal personality within the team building this offseason, but he is also leading the way in the strength and conditioning program. Ewers was one of the group leaders in the winter strength and conditioning program earlier this offseason.

He is now one of the players that are getting down to work right away in the summer workout program, getting his body right ahead of the start of fall camp.

The version of Ewers that we’re hearing about this offseason for the Longhorns looks a lot more confident and mature than the one that was battling it out with junior Hudson Card for the starting job last year. We just need to see this growth from Ewers translate to more success leading the offense on the field for the Longhorns during the 2023 season.
