Texas Football: 3 new crystal balls entered for Longhorns this weekend
Freddie Dubose Jr., WR
A top-rated in-state wide receiver recruit that the Longhorns hosted on an official visit this weekend is the high-four-star Schertz (TX) Smithson Valley product Freddie Dubose Jr. The 6-foot-1 and 170-pound wideout visited Texas for the second time in the last few months for his official trip starting on June 16.
Dubose also made it to Texas for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25.
What became clear this weekend, though, is that Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns are really prioritizing Dubose’s recruitment in a bigger way than many thought heading into the summer.
Dubose was hosted by the former elite five-star recruit out of DeSoto High School, Johntay Cook II, on his official visit this weekend. That and some of the smoke surrounding Texas in this recruitment in the last couple of days indicate that Dubose has a spot in this class if he wants in.
In the last 24 hours, three 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions were entered, projecting Dubose’s commitment to Texas. That includes a crystal ball prediction from national recruiting analyst Mike Roach, which was entered with high confidence (seven out of 10).
It’s also worth noting that On3 and Rivals had multiple forecasts in the last 24 hours, unanimously projecting Dubose to commit to the Longhorns.
Texas is in a great spot in the race to land a commitment from Dubose coming out of his official visit to Austin this weekend. As long as Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns can hold off a big late push from the Tennessee Volunteers when he officially visits Knoxville next weekend, this recruitment appears to be Texas’ to lose.
