Texas Football: 3 elite recruits on commitment watch for Longhorns in July
Colin Simmons, EDGE
Although it’s not to the same degree that we saw last summer with five-star quarterback recruit Arch Manning, the hype surrounding the recruitment of the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons this offseason is massive. Simmons is the clear-cut top-priority recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class this summer.
Since Simmons’ wrapped up his official visit to Texas on June 25, the momentum and buzz surrounding the Longhorns in this recruitment was nothing short of insane. Texas made a huge move with Simmons during his official visit a couple of weekends ago.
There is some optimism building that Texas could get a commitment from Simmons in late July. The goal for Texas now is to shut down this recruitment before Simmons can visit College Station to see the Texas A&M Aggies once the dead period lifts ahead of the last weekend of July.
Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods reported on July 6 (subscriber content) that there’s still a decent chance the Longhorns get a commitment from Simmons before he can visit another school once the dead period lifts in late July.
Two scenarios will play out in this recruitment at this point. The first will see Texas seal the deal with Simmons before the final weekend of July. And the second and less desirable scenario will see Simmons’ recruitment play out more patiently, with multiple visits being taken heading into the fall.
